Junk’s natural selection

When our office basement flooded last year I was brought face to face with stuff we had been storing. Even though the water only rose an inch it destroyed a lot. Much of our stuff was in boxes, and as the water rose it soaked all the way up the sides. The biggest loss was to our books, especially some of my wife’s college books. We ended up throwing away quite a bit. In the end though, it was relieving. Clearing out garbage bag loads gave me a comforting feeling, we were minimizing.

There’s natural selection when it comes to junk, things that aren’t important will eventually be lost, thrown away, stored, or trashed. If you are debating whether to keep or throw a specific item, ask yourself; “if I lost this item, would I bother replacing it?” if the answer is no, get rid of it.
