Apple brings Vehicle Motion Cues to the Mac

Apple continues to push the edges of what can be done with accesibility—and I applaud them for it.

Vehicle Motion Cues, which can help reduce motion sickness when riding in a moving vehicle, comes to Mac, along with new ways to customize the animated onscreen dots on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

This is huge.

Vehicle Motion Cues on my Mac could enable something I’ve never been able to do—working on roadtrips while my wife drives.

It’s not my preferred way to work, but I’ve always loved the idea of being able to use the workday to travel—having countless hours with nothing to do but focus (assuming noise cancelling headphones) while we head to a vacation destination—but alas I’ve been unable to access this dream state of work (slight sarcasm, but seriously this would be pretty useful) because of my brain’s inability to allow me to do anything in a car aside from looking straight forward.

I don’t get bad car sickness, but it’s just enough to make me unable to stare at a screen, read a book, or do anything other than being a passenger.

Motion Cues on the iPhone are fantastic, and I recommend them to everyone I meet—but still I don’t work on my phone, and the screen is rather small. I’m excited to try this on the Mac and see if it allows me to actually use my laptop while traveling. Now, if Apple can ship a MacBook with a cell modem I’d be in heaven.
