Apple in China
Over the weekend I finished listening to Apple in China. If you enjoy great stories on the history of Apple this one is a fantastic addition.
It’s packed with anecdotes I’d never heard before, and emphasizes a point Ben Thompson has been pushing for years—namely the importance of understanding supply chains, TSMC, and Apple’s absolute dominance in manufacturing.
But the book goes further, and it read like a novel.
It walks through the history of how Apple went from factories in America to ultimately landing in China. That, along with their initial foray into China’s retail, underscores the impact of its population and how both the corporation and country helped each other throughout the last two decades.
With Apple making moves into India for hardware production, and dancing between the demands of both America and China, it’s an interesting time to be a fan of the company.
