Apple Pencil confusion

The iPad is an essential part of my life. Along with that goes the Apple Pencil.

But today I ran into a problem, not knowing which one to buy.

During the work day I use the iPad as much as my MacBook Pro, and some times more. When I need to think through a complicated flow or design I pull open Freeform and start sketching.

I’ve never lost an Apple Pencil, until now.

In the last two weeks I’ve managed to misplace my Apple Pencil (2nd generation) along with my backup—the Logitech Pencil (which is perfectly fine for the sketching I do).

These stylus devices are so critical to my work that I immediately looked for a replacement—thankfully a colleague was able to share one to get me to the end of the work day.

First thing after work I went to Target to buy a new one.

Then I ran into a problem. Though I knew there was an Apple Pencil 1st generation, Apple Pencil 2nd generation, and Apple Pencil Pro, I completely forgot about the Apple Pencil USB-C.

So I panicked. I grabbed my phone and started frantically searching for the differences between them. Apple helpfully offers a compare page for the USB-C and Pro models, but I wanted to compare against the Apple Pencil 2nd generation, a futile endeavor while the kind Target employee was patiently waiting to go into the back and pickup the model I needed.

I finally went with the USB-C model purely based on price. We’ll see over the next few days if I regret my decision—assuming I don’t lose it.
