Collecting ideas for later
A funny thing happens when I save writing ideas for later. I see a great headline and scan across an article, and I immediately know that I want to take the time to digest it—and ultimately respond with my own thoughts.
So I’ll come to my writing time and see the article again at the top of my lists. But then I hesitate. I’ve made the piece too big in my mind, too important. It deserves my absolute attention and I want to write a meaningful response to it.
As a result I ignore it and move on.
I’m trying to get better at spending less time on the dithering, going with my gut, and just having fun with it—as opposed to trying to always be perfect and wait for the right time to write that magnum opus. .
That’s not to say time shouldn’t be put into some pieces, and I also want to always read what I share—but sometimes it’s fine to just have a surface response and get an idea out there. Better than a thousand links hidden away that will never see the light of day.
