Muybridge and Thunderbolts
Two fun design bits of inspiration happened this week while I was decidedly not working. In the evenings I’ve been reading through the excellent Muybridge graphic novel. Earlier this week I also went and watched Thunderbolts in theatres.
At the end of the movie the main-on-end credits had stylized black and white illustrations mixed in with bright streaks of yellow.
The graphic novel also makes use mainly of black and white with yellow in parts.
Seeing these two together connected an idea in my brain. Neither of these design concepts are new. Everything, of course, is a remix on ideas that came before. But sometimes our brains can pattern match, and when enough pieces come together we’re inspired to push forward with iterative design concepts.
What will I do with this? Maybe nothing. But likely my next illustrations will be inspired by both of these ideas.
Note: As my friend Devon pointed out, the new Bono special also has the same color scheme.
