Quake bullet time and lab rats
I’ve been a writer now for a long time. I love to share the written word. It goes along with my voracious love of reading.
As I’ve continued to read and learn and grow I’ve also found the desire to riff on all the ideas I’m learning. Talking to friends is a huge part of this. But at some point I feel that I’m taking up too much of my friend’s time with a thirty minute run down of a random book I just read. The glazed look in their eyes generally tells me it’s time to move on.
Since 2017 I’ve been testing out podcasting. First it was with my friend Rheinard, then I tried one with my buddy Caleb, and also tested out several other podcasts at various levels. Fractional has been going for two years now and I think we’re just getting started.
Through all this I’ve been looking for a place to just chat on topics of interest.
My friend Saadia and I have been running an experiment for a few months now. We started a podcast.
37 episodes in and I think we’re onto something.
Because he’s in Australia and I’m in Idaho we don’t have a ton of overlap to record. We could do record of course, and spent six months last year on another podcast attempt. But we ran into various logistical snags.
So we decided to try something different.
Both of us come from careers defined by working asynchronous. Yes we have meetings and times we have to collaborate with colleagues, but by and large we are able to think and work independent of time. So why not do that with a podcast? It’s not something we’ve seen anyone else do, so we decided to give it a try.
The result? A really fun async podcast.
Saadia shares a topic, asks a few questions, then hits publish. I listen to his episode, share followup on what he talked about, then share my own topic.
Round and round we go, tossing the proverbial podcast over the Pacific back and forth day after day.
If you’re looking for a new podcast where we geek out on all kinds of topics from tech to parenting to life, then join us. The episodes are short. 7-10 minutes on average.
