Quote blogging

Throughout last month I spent a lot of time writing, and almost as much time quoting others and commenting on their thoughts. I enjoy both.

On Friday, though, I read a post that just sat with me. It was 8,500 words. Almost short book length, less post. At first I intended to scan it, find some pithy statement to quote, then add my own thoughts.

There’s nothing wrong with that, I love to do it.

But it was so good, so deep, and just got me thinking about a very specific topic in a way I hadn’t done in a while that—well frankly it warranted more than just a block quote.

I may at some point share specifics, but I found joy in just reading, just absorbing, thinking deeply on a topic, and not looking for a way to outputize or quantity the work.

In a world where output is quantified and measured and pursued, sometimes its nice to just sit with something and ponder, not chase the immediate way to capitalize on the thought, and let it sink in deeply.

Ironically, then, I’m still writing about it without writing about it.
