Reading leads to sharing leads to reading
I love to read. Whether it’s audio books, blog posts, or occassionally physical books, I love the act of consuming great stories.
There are so many great things to read. I’ve finally gotten to the point where I recognize the amount of things I want to look at is essentially infinite, and my remaining time to read it is finite.
Another aspect of reading is wanting to do it for the enjoyment of the moment, and also to absorb and digest the information.
One way I’ve found that helps is to share what I’m learning.
I started by downloading recent books onto unwitting victims in long monologues. The glazed looks on people’s eyes quickly taught me to adjust.
Now I try two methods.
When I read something I love I’ll find someone to share it with in 1-3 minute pitches. I’ll just spend that short time pitching them on the idea of what I read, sharing enough that they get the idea and know about it, but hopefully are curious to dive in deeper.
The other method is through my blog. Summarizing what I learned and writing about it.
I’ve found when I do either of those that my brain remembers more deeply.
