Rest energizes
A ton of energy thrown into a project on day one, pushing ourselves to the absolute limit, means you’ll be exhausted the next day, likely putz around and procrastinate, and not be able to reach the highs of the day before.
Over the last month I’ve been writing a lot more, and it’s been fun. But the risk arises that I try to meet the output of previous days, and that makes it impossible to keep up on a day where the stars don’t perfectly align.
My goal is modest. Every work day I write 750 words, that’s it. I haven’t capped it, but I may if I reach a point of feeling worn out just from that task.
I’m trying to rethink projects in general, how much energy goes to them, and what done looks like. As we all try to navigate this crazy world there’s some fun ways to look at what our goals are, where we want to go, and what it looks like on the journey.
Sometimes the best answer is to rest and put in the small amount of energy needed one day at a time.
