Social media checkin
It’s now going on four months since I’ve been on social media.
It’s been a fun experiment just stepping away entirely. The time I’d usually spend there has transitioned to this blog, reading articles, more podcasts and books, and even the occasional game.
Part of me thinks I’ll never go back. This is me now, back to what I used to be before social media came along. I have more time to think, to create, to process thoughts.
Sure, I’m still frantic at time, all over the place, and using my devices far too much. But little by little it seems I’m adjusting to calmer forms of content.
Now, when someone shares a video on Instagram, or I watch the occassional YouTube video, the effect is jarring. Social media moves so fast, with so much happening at once.
Oddly though, the information density is far less than what I’m generally consuming. One video I watched recently took a full minute to get across a point that could have been said in a second or two.
All of this is to feed the algorithm that demands more.
I’m hoping to stay away from that game, at least for now.
