The outdoors await
Our whole world spins around our screens while we spin around a world. We’re consumed by them. They’re our everything. Our lives, livelihood, communities, politics, learnings, all tied up inside these slabs of glass emitting light.
They’re a constant. They’re a necessity. For many of us who have specialized in our ability to manipulate their contents they are simple a way of life.
I’ve spent more waking hours looking at screens in my career than not. There’s loss there, of what could have been. But there’s also gratitude, thankfulness for opportunity, for possibility.
And yet I find myself wanting nothing more than to toss them away, to disappear into the woods, to see the changing light of a real star, and to feel the air around me. Even then the screen becomes, I pull it from my pocket and check, making sure the digital atoms haven’t shifted in an unexpected way.
Now, with that said, time to get outside.
