The You You Are

No, I haven’t read the book yet. And yes, I want to.

Going along with the theme of shades of gray within people, many of us have different personas based on who we’re around, or what we’re doing.

This may be an age thing, but I find myself writing or speaking differently based on the context.

Someone I’ve known for a while was surprised to find out I’m a gamer. It’s not that I hid that, but rather it hadn’t come up.

It’s not a bad thing to change a little bit for different people or settings. I’m not talking Jekyll and Hyde here, but rather using the context to shape the conversation. When I record podcasts I speak a little differently on air vs off air. It’s mostly the same, probably a 90% overlap. But there’s a little I hold back when I’m recording, a tiny bit of me I keep to myself, best only for offline.

So have your outie, your innie, your basketball fan you, writer you, gamer you.
