Tme to think
On a recent episode of Async my friend Saadia talked about the value of finding time for thinking.
It’s easy to fill life with thoughts from others—movies, tv, podcasts, audiobooks, meetings—days can go by without really sitting and being. That’s not to say we should disregard the thoughts from others. Storytelling is powerful, and reading—to take just one example—helps to build creativity, challenge the mind, and grow.
So I’ve been thinking about thinking.
I don’t have a lot of times in my life where I just allow my brain to process. Part of that is by choice.
For much of my life I didn’t like the idea of sitting with my thoughts. I’d rather do something, and being inside my own head isn’t always appealing. With that said, occassionally I’ll go on a run in the woods sans AirPods. I just disappear, move along a trail, and use the time to process.
It’s wonderful, and I never regret it. Maybe it’s time to try it a little more often.
