UltraFine strikes again

The LG UltraFine 6K Monitor, model 32U990A, surfaced on Monday as part of the 2025 CES Innovation Awards, as an honoree in imaging. The monitor is described as the first in the world to have a 6K resolution display that also uses Thunderbolt 5.

I’m so torn on this.

I owned an UltraFine 5k and it was one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve had with a piece of hardware.

I echo Casey’s general view that still holds up years later:

… the stand is straight-up trash, and the monitor itself is unreliable on the best of days. When it does work, though, it’s great!

I spent hundreds of dollars on multiple repair services from different companies, spent numerous attempts to contact LG and was stuck with a complete lemon of a device. I’ve sworn I would never again own a monitor from LG.

While I’m excited to see some competition in this space, I’m very wary of anything with that claims to be fine.
