Changing your default browser

My browser of choice is Safari. This after a lifetime of Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome.

I switched about two years ago.

Safari has a simplicity to it that I appreciate. It’s beautiful from a chrome perspective. It’s an incredibly elegant browser, and, at least until recently, had the best battery on a MacBook. It also addresses ram better than Chrome. Although, now with 64gb of ram that’s less of a problem.

Though Safari is my browser of choice, I find myself opening Chrome daily for a few web apps that just don’t play nicely with the open web.

It’s annoying that we’re back to where we were 20 years ago. Websites used to exist only for Internet Explorer, every other browser was dead to them. The same is happening again with Chrome.

So I try my best to stick to Safari and manually open Chrome when I need it. But often I run into a problem. If I’m clicking on a link, say a recording link in Riverside, it will open in Safari but then remind me that I’m in an incompatible browser.

Yes I can copy paste a url like any other person. But the easier solution I’ve found is to switch my default browser.

Enter a simple solution for this problem. Default Browser, but Sindre Sorhus, presents a tiny browser icon in my Mac’s menu bar. Tapping that lets me switch between Chrome and Safari, and move on with my day.

Update: A friend shared Choosy. An app I haven't used yet, but sounds perfect for my use case.
