Dark Noise is still the best app for noise cancelling

I love the Dark Noise app.

Recently I tried switching away from it. I wanted to try out Apple’s Background Sounds.

The quality of the sounds is just as good. I’ve been happy with them, and I can quickly trigger the dark noise to start from the control center.

But I’ve found an issue that any calls that come through—even if I I’m set to do not disturb—will stop the noise. The call isn’t even vibrating or making a sound, but somehow it hijacks Apple’s Background Sounds.

There may be a way around this, but so far I haven’t found one. I also may just be dealing with a bug.

I recently got woken earlier than normal because of a phone call that came through—not because of any vibrating or call sound, but because the dark noise had stopped.

That goes against my whole philosophy of a phone that should never bug me (except in emergencies).

So, at least for now I’m back to the Dark Noise app. I can trigger it just as easiily from the Control Center, and it’s created by a developer who cares about the little details and is incentivized to get it right.
