Foam tip airpods

I’ve been a fan of AirPods for years.

Now, they aren’t perfect. I’ve had many frustrating moments where the headphones connects to the wrong device, disconnect when I don’t want them to, or I’m fiddling with the sound settings on a video call trying to figure out why I’m suddenly hearing a person from my Mac’s monitors instead of the device on my ears.

In fact I sometimes just question using wireless in my home office at all and wonder why I don’t go back to the good old aux cable. It’s gotten so bad at times that I’ve had to manually tell both my AirPods to never connect auto to any device. I just don’t trust the technology to have my mic and speaker where I need them when I need them.

But, that all aside, I just love the AirPods as a whole concept. I use them hours every day, and when I’m not around someone in person I probably have something audio related playing in my ears.

One issue I’ve run into recently is the AirPods Pro 2 has a clicking sound while running. I’ll start out on a jog and hear a light click with every step. Needless to say it’s frustrating and distracting. It doesn’t stop the sound from playing, but I keep fiddling with the placement of the AirPods to get it to go away.

That all stopped a few months ago when I bought foam tips. I’d heard Federico sing their praises on an episode of Connected, so I bought a cheap pair on Amazon. At first I tried a sample kit to find my size, but settled on the largest size they offered and bought a set with five more pairs.

These things are amazing. No more clicking around, I get a better fit in my ears, and they’re relatively cheap. I find that they need to be changed out at least every few months (maybe more often), but they make the entire device fit more snugly into my ears.

So if you’er a runner and have been having issues with clicking, try out foam tips. I’m sure there’s better, more expensive ones out there, but these cheap ones have been just fine for me.
