Perspective
Time away gives you perspective. Sometimes I’ll stop a habit for a few days or weeks and decide whether to pick it up again.
That’s not always a wise idea. You don’t want to break the chain because of forward momentum. We come up with all kinds of tricks to keep ourselves doing what we believe is valuable. The default otherwise would be binging Netflix and eating cheetos.
But sometimes we need to step back to decide whether the things we’re doing really match the marketing of who we believe we are.
If I stop running for months I miss it. I’ve tested this numerous times. I know it’s a thing I want in my life. Same with personal devotional time, healthier eating habits, and much more.
Some things cross the line and matter enough to push against the resistance and keep going.
