Slow news

Stay online long enough and it’s easy to get a sense that the world is simultaneously ending and somehow indifferent to that fact. It all feels ridiculous.

For the last few months I’ve had a slow news habit. I find out about things from friends. I’m not first to know anymore.

Pausing Reddit and Threads (before Twitter) has changed my inputs. And it’s lovely.

I still found out the things that matter, but sometimes a day (or week) delayed.

My time instead is spent on either things that are meaningful, or innocuous.

And some nights (like now) I have the desire to write and put things out because the infinite consumption conveyer belt isn’t shoveling things into my mind.
