Thinking and podcasts

A friend and I have been testing a new format for a podcast recently. I haven’t written about it yet because it’s still been in the playing around territory. But 35 episodes in and I think we might be on to something. Instead of getting together live and recording, we create async podcasts and send them over to each other. It’s fun, they’re short and quick, and we have developed a great method for followup and sharing new ideas.

I was struck today by something Saadia shared on the last episode. This matches what I’ve heard other podcasts say, that writing is thinking. When you write something down you generate ideas in your mind and develop the thought more deeply.

I find that writing and talking about a thing help to solidify it in my mind. Sometimes I talk about something on a podcast and it gets into my brain and inspires me to write. Other times what I’ve written turns into a podcast topic.

Either way the creative act helps to build ideas and form them. Without the time to sit down and create I feel like my brain will atrophy.

If you’re unsure about the benefits of writing, or some similar creative work, I can happily share that nothing but good has come from it for me.
