Thoughts on WWDC 2025

It was fun seeing all these changes come out from Apple. I always enjoy WWDC, and love seeing the hard work of all the people at Apple come through. That doesn’t mean there’s not things that concern me, but today I’m choosing to be an optimist.

Apart from being bummed about Freeform, and my excitement about Liquid Glass, here are a few additional notes I had.

  • Maps adapting to my routes - When I’m traveling from home to my kid’s school I’ll always check the map. Not because I don’t know how to get there—although you’d pick up that impression from my overreliance on GPS—but rather because I want to know if there’s traffic on the way. Apple Maps showing for me is perfect. Ideally it will reduce steps before I start driving and just appear as a live activity, predicting my next move.
  • Photos app albums - Finally. When I go into my Apple Photos on the iPhone I either want to look at the last picture I took, scroll up a few days, or check an album. The iOS 18 redesign made that third option much harder. I need to play with this a bit, but I’m guessing it will fix my biggest gripe with Photos.
  • Flighty sherlocked - Seeing all the flight live activities throughout the keynote I couldn’t help but worry this might be the end for Flighty. I hope not. I love that app.
  • Better smart stacks - Smart stacks aren’t all that smart on the Apple Watch. I hope things have improved. I’ll try this out and see.
  • Wrist flicks on Apple Watch - Double Tap is garbage. I’m hoping this is better.
  • Windowing on iPad - Finally? We’ll see. Looks perfect.
  • Auto transitions for Apple Music - I love this. My playlists are quite funky. Having smooth transitions between things would be much appreciated.

I’m going full in on Betas. It’s going to be a crazy summer.
