Tracking sleep apnea
Sleep apnea is a potentially serious disorder in which a person's breathing repeatedly stops and starts while they sleep. The built-in accelerometer on the Apple Watch Series 10, Apple Watch Series 9, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 running watchOS 11 can "monitor small movements at the wrist" that may be associated with breathing disturbances, and notify you if you show consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea.
On the one hand I feel frustrated at the pace of new ideas shipping from Apple. On the other hand the new hearing aid feature on AirPods is magical.
This new feature for sleep apnea is another area where Apple is doing so well. Personally I’ve tried to test it out, but have struggled with wearing my Apple Watch Ultra (first world problems, I know) while sleeping on my side. Flipping it to the inside of my wrist does the trick. I may go back to testing again and seeing if I have sleep apnea.
What a world we live in where finding out this type of information is possible.
