Drafts folders

So to correct the record, I don’t necessarily believe in drafts either. It’s where stuff goes that I would rather see published, if it weren’t lacking in one or more ways. Because I’m with Wouter here: get your ideas out there into the world.

I’ve got some posts that sit in draft form and will never see the light of day. I also have 3-4 novels, entire first manuscripts fully written, that will never see the light of day.

That work is sad in a way, but it’s also shaped who I am, helped me find my voice, helped me define how I think about things. Writing into a draft is safe, it’s a place where the infinite exists and anything can happen. It’s also a place I don’t want to stay forever. Too many years have been spent not shipping, pondering and processing, but not being brave enough to share.

Is everything I share perfect? Absolutely not. Some of it is a bit embarassing. But I’m trying to grow and learn and push and shape my thoughts in public. Sometimes it’s even a thing I’m proud of.
