Times of quiet

Over the last decade I’ve preferred accessing my email via the web browser. I’ve eschewed apps on my Mac or iPhone, choosing to visit Gmail.com, or HEY.com so that I have control over when I check my email.

Now that I’ve switch to Mail—despite the app being just fine—I find myself checking email more often throughout the day than I’d like. I have a problem, I know. But one way I’ve gotten around is to log out of my email, forcing me to log back in and two-factor when I actually need to check things.

Having email available in an app at my fingertips doesn’t give me a way to curb my addiction. And with the Mail app you can’t use the trick to put it in the hidden folder in the app library.

I’m considering deleting the app and using iCloud mail to check my email. That will be a rough experience, but the friction is kind of the point.

Update: iCloud mail it is!
