I’ve enjoyed drawing since I was a kid. Sketching with a pencil is a lot of fun. Taking a blank page and bringing it to life with a bunch of scribbles still amazes me. I’ve been writing daily for almost two months and have seen parallels between art and writing. Both take time and practice. Both require a lot of editing and refining before you have a polished product. Some people think that in order to be a great artist they have to be endowed with a natural gift. That’s not true. Anyone can be an artist (or a writer); the only secret is time, and lots of it.
Writing has been fun so far. In some ways I enjoy it more than art. It’s less subjective and based more on the content and less on the form. Not everyone is an artist, but everyone sure has an opinion on art; as for writing people focus more on what you are writing about then the way it’s written. Either way I’ll still keep doing art, but I may offset that with more writing.
