I learned an important principle from a friend of mine. “Instead of paying a mechanic to change your brakes, do it yourself. The tools will be an initial investment, but they will more than pay for themselves.” That principle fits nicely into a minimalist mindset. Make use of what you have and stretch it. This can apply to many areas of our lives.
My friend and I lift weights together. Using this same principle my friend purchased used gym equipment. For less than the price of a year membership we have all we need to workout. On a trip to Wisconsin last year I found an entire dumb bell set on Craigslist for only $150. Some extra tools for our workout. Instead of paying monthly fees to the local gym we can workout all we want, for free. Now, if only I could enjoy working out.
