Certainless

Seven years ago I set a daily goal of 1,000 words. I was reading a Stephen King book (On Writing) and he suggested 2,000 words seven days a week as a writing habit, something he's done for many years.

He offered an out, half of his total, and I took it. For several years I did just that, and as a result I got very comfortable putting words to page, regardless of care for the quality.

I'm thankful I got started before LLMs became a thing. Not because I believe my writing to be fantastic and immutable. But because I've found me, my methods for putting words to ideas, my own personal way of adding word after word.

Over time I wavered on the original goal, sometimes hitting it, sometimes stopping entirely for months on end. But it's mostly remained. Most days, try to put words down to digital paper. Over the last few years that's meant writing, editing, then publishing.

I'd love to get back to novel writing, but my mind struggles to hold definite thoughts together over long periods of time—not because it's impossible, but because my creative energy have been elsewhere for some time.

With that said, I've long struggled with where to write what. Do I have a single place for fiction and no-fiction, what about various topics? And so I've split things up a bit.

This blog, is mostly about life and technology, mixed in with design.

But I have other interests. Some short form, others related to separate topics entirely.

And so, for the last year I've been writing quietly on another blog. Posting far less often. But, if you subscribe here and wonder why some days you'll see nothing; it could be because I didn't write, or I wrote elsewhere.

The name of that elsewhere writing is Certainless. It's a call to a change in my own mentality, how I've gone from being certain of everything, to shifting and being certain of less, while finding joy in the unknown and in the known.

This blog is about my faith walk, how that's shifted over time, and how it continues to evolve. If you're curious, and have an interest in such areas of discussion, I'd welcome your thoughts.

Also, this is another way of saying I'm not writing a full 750 word post today on this blog (my new goal over the last year or so). You can read what my much longer post over there now.
