Teaching is an amazing and humbling experience. For several years I’ve been privileged to teach at our church in the Sabbath school division for teens. I’ve picked up a few tips that I’d like to share.

  1. Create discussion
What I have to say is not so brilliant as I might think. I’m there to facilitate discussion, which means getting everyone to talk, not just me. The most successful classes are where everyone shares their thoughts, especially those that tend to be more quiet.
  2. Guide, don’t dictate
I’m not there to force anything on my students, my goal is to guide the lesson, get them thinking, and ask questions. Once a point has been properly established I move the class on to the next point.
  3. Be flexible
Classes don’t always go as planned. At times the class has gone in an entirely different direction, but we were still greatly blessed.
